St. George
St. George’s Day (April 23) honors the patron saint of agriculture and livestock. On or close to this day, which also heralds the beginning of summer farming season, the St. George’s Parade takes place in Salzburg.
“Georgi Kirchweih”
From Friday through Sunday on the weekend just before St. George’s Day, all kinds of festivities will draw visitors from near and far to the Salzburg historic district. Market stands as well as a big marquee with music and a selection of culinary delicacies guarantee something certain to appeal to everyone. The highlight of festivities will be the St. George’s Parade on Sunday:
- 9 AM: Arrival of the St. George’s Riders and ceremonial Salzburg Citizens’ Militia on the Kapitelplatz.
- 9:30 AM: Holy mass in St. George’s Chapel at Hohensalzburg Fortress.
- 10:30 AM: Blessing of the horses in the fortress courtyard, followed by a horse parade to the Kapitelplatz.
